SKY and NITV news anchor Stan Grant has shared the pain and anguish he suffered as an indigenous child, living in fear of being taken away by “the welfare men.”In an emotional episode of Julia Zemiro’s Home Delivery (8pm, Wed on ABC), the former foreign correspondent said suppressed anxiety over his “traumatic” childhood, mixed with the horrors he covered in his roving reporter role for CNN forced him to return to Australia in 2013 “in deep depression and despair”.Returning to his housing commission home in Griffith, in the southwest region of NSW, with the Rockwhiz host Zemiro, a teary Grant (below) admits the threat of being seized by government officers loomed ominously over him, his three younger siblings and other Aboriginal children in the area.
